Wanna see something REALLY sick? About 10x10", I got a hair up my ass to make concentric circles. It took surprisingly less time than you'd think, and way more than a normal person should have wanted to devote to it.

Detail:

I spent almost 22 hours yesterday finishing "K9." I made myself sick, drawing too much, too closely, but I got it done. K9 Final under cut. )

This is about 3/4 finished, a commission for a K9 guy. Those guys are nutty about their dogs, man.

Anal-retention, where the rubber meets the road.

If you're unsure about what to get ANYONE for the holidays, go to any page of the Esperanza en Acción website and look at the art, pottery, sculptures, pine needle craziness. It's INSANELY priced and it benefits an organization that my good friend [livejournal.com profile] chachachana supported selflessly for years and years before coming back to the States. Seriously good work. I have one piece of pottery that I treasure so highly that it's the first thing I wrap up and move when I move, and several of the pine needle pieces that make me almost weep, they're so painstakingly crafted and lovely.

Go! Buy! Support Nicaraguan artisans and Fair Trade! Esperanza en Acción.

I don't wax rhapsodical about other people's art very often, but holy shit, check out this chick Cynthia Camlin. Someone actually even MORE anal-retentive than me. Amazing stuff.

Cripes, I've had "Play That Fast Thing One More Time" by Rockpile in my head all fucking morning, so that got me on a playlist consisting of Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello and also got me wondering whatever happened to Marshall Crenshaw, Del Amitri, Sam Phillips and so I looked them up and I'm so sad that Chris Whitley is dead...

This was from back in the day when musicians could go up, rip out anything at all, and not whinge about no sparkling water in their travel bus. "Rockpile" - Girls Talk"

Hey, I'm going to see "Spoon" and "Radiohead."

Fuck, Donna. Get on task. I've got two paintings, FOUR drawings, and a postcard to finish.

Yesterday, I had a bit of a revelation while looking at some painting work I'd done about ten years ago for my Mom. I've always discounted my talent as "evolving," meaning to me that I was never very good, but I'm getting better. This work was VERY good, and I'd forgotten doing it. I forget a lot of my art. I slip into this fugue state and pump it out, and don't remember creating it, or what it looks like. I'm always surprised to see my earlier work. Always.

Anyway, such a good day today! My folks came up and we went to breakfast, where I witnessed the spectacle of a typical Polo family. Dad looked *sincerely* like a serial killer, and unkempt horror-show lumpy Mom of Doom a) smashed her baby's head into the back of the booth and then berated him for crying and b) fed him a large bowl of biscuits and gravy. He was painted in it. I told my parents as we left, "There's the future President of the United States. His future is GOLDEN." Oh, and the cats mating by my parents' car...BONUS!

So we came home, watched some "Office" that I'd DVR'd for them, then they went home. Since they left at 1:00, I've almost finished the ink work on "Gardening Stuff" (below),

This is all I do, all day, all night...sometimes there's loud loud obnoxious music. Sometimes there are horror movies or shows about ghosties or vampires. Always dotdotdotdotfuckingdot...

Here's a progress shot of "Pantry," 12-3/4x9-3/4". This thing's gonna kill me; so far, 150 hours.

She's at the lake, drawing 20 hours a day. Illustration Ink baby. It's what all the cool kids are doing.

I've got an agent! He's awesome...enthusiastic and smart and professional. As of Friday, five line pieces are hanging in a salon in Overland Park, KS and we're working out the details for a show there of my stipple work (in about a month). I'll send EVERYBODY an EVite when the details are hammered out. Free cocktails and pupus!! Plus, you know, the art, heh. We're developing the local gallery database and will start submitting probably this week, so expect a ton of shows from me this year.

I've been working on the following pieces:

"Pantry"

Today, I lay down the color on "Stipple Mary" and I may start a new version of the above picture, in colored pencil. It's really a lovely reference photograph. I meet with my new rep tomorrow Thursday, contract and samples in hand!

My favorite Schruteism today:

"Reject a woman and she will never let it go. One of the many defects of their kind. Also, weak arms."

Add me if you haven't!

I'm working on a series of nude, bald, tattooed women. I don't know why. They look kick-ass.

Also: Jiminy! )

Have to share this now, even though I'm really close to being done (maybe 10 more hours), because I'm SO EXCITED about how it's turning out. It looks like an old tinted dagguerotype. I'll probably have the final up tomorrow.

While I wait on some supplies to finish my commission, I've finished "Arrangement", which pleases me because it has taken me roughly forever to pull the trigger on this one. And I like it a lot. Much more color work coming soon...stayed tuned to Illustration Ink for updates.

I still need to figure out some perspective weirdness between the tiles and the fountain bed, but all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. About 175 hours into it, another 100 to go.

CRAZY GOOD SALE at Illustration Ink, plus new content on the home page.

**EDIT TO ADD**: ...aaaaand the PayPal site is down, so I can't make my buttons consistent. Mother douchebags.
