As funny as my parents can be, sometimes it's an annoying, ant-filled picnic to hang out with an 83 year-old. For one thing, he's practically deaf and won't do anything about it. So when I shared with him the wonder that is closed-captioning so my Mom will stop fortheloveofGod bitching about the volume, we thought, "Huzzah, problem solved!" Only he can't remember how to do it. And he won't say anything when he can't hear what's going on. And the worst...
My folks are huge CSI fans. I turned them onto it about five years ago, and now they don't miss an episode. Last night was a huge climactic episode, with one of the key characters leaving, the last few episodes dramatically building to this event. I'm watching it with Ray (Mom was out) and we get to the end, which was kind of misty-eyed, with a sweet letter and I turn to Ray and say, "Huh, that wasn't too bad a way to go out."
And he says.
"Why did she leave?"
And I said, "Did you hear anything in that letter?"
And he said, "No."
And I wanted to kill him because he's a stupidhead. And then I told him he was a stupidhead, and that she left because she wants to grow marijuana in South America and felt like American laws were too restrictive for that and the side-business she was planning, that of making lead-based toys to sell to American kids because she's secretly evil and has been all along.
